Six-Man Handicap Tag
Team Match
Dick the Bruiser
&
Crusher
&
midget wrestler
Little Bruiser
vs.
Blackjack Mulligan & Blackjack Lanza
&
manager
Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
This match
is about revenge and humiliation. Two of the top tag
teams in the World in the early 70s were very similar in style. Dick
the Bruiser and the Crusher had practically invented
"hardcore" wrestling in the 70s. More comfortable
swinging a chair than applying a hold, the "Cussin'
Cousins" brawled and bled in front of sellout crowds all
over the world. They were beloved in the Midwest where they won
five AWA World tag team championships and six WWA tag team
championships.
They met their
match when manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
brought the Blackjacks to the Midwest. The Blackjacks
were just as rugged and just as vicious as Bruiser and Crusher.
And most importantly, they were just as accomplished. They would
win the WWE World tag team championship, the American tag team
championship, and the Texas tag team championship. Both would
have outstanding singles careers beyond their tag team. Blackjack
Mulligan was a true giant, standing 6-foot-10 and weighing
335-pounds. The "smaller" Blackjack Lanza was
6-foot-4 and a solid 250 pounds.
What the
Blackjacks had that Bruiser and Crusher didn't was Bobby Heenan
in their corner.
When the
Blackjacks beat Bruiser and Crusher for the WWA tag team
championship, Bruiser and Crusher protested that it was due to
Heenan's interference. Bruiser made the same claims when Bobby
Heenan managed Baron Von Raschke to a WWA heavyweight title
victory over Bruiser.
Bruiser and
Crusher wanted more than just revenge. They wanted to humiliate
Heenan the same way they felt that Heenan had them.
They challenged
the Blackjacks and Heenan to a six-man tag team match. But
instead of picking a typical heavyweight partner, Bruiser and
Crusher selected midget star Little Bruiser as their
partner.
The challenge
enraged Heenan, furious over being mocked with a 4-foot 95-pound
opponent.
Little Bruiser
actually modeled his career after Dick the Bruiser. He created
the same type mayhem with the same brawling style in the midget
ranks.
The Heenan camp
accepted the challenge with one ominous warning: If they caught
Little Bruiser in the ring they end the joke by destroying him.
Battle
of the Wildmen
Sheik
&
Sgt. Jacques Goulet
vs.
Dick the Bruiser &
Sailor Art Thomas
Who
was the wildest, most violent, most uncontrollable wrestler of
all time?
Some
say Dick the Bruiser. Some say the Sheik.
You
can now judge for yourself when you see the two greatest
brawlers of all time battle it out on opposite sides of a tag
team match.
Both
were innovators of the wild, "hardcore" style and both
were among the greatest draws in the history of professional
wrestling.
Combined,
the two probably spilled more opponents' blood than any other
two wrestlers.
Now,
they have a chance to spill each others.
Bruiser
teams with powerhouse Sailor Art Thomas. Thomas had one
of the first bodybuilder physiques in wrestling. Even compared
to today's physique standards, Thomas' body is phenomenal.
Sheik
teams with French Foreign Legion outcast Sgt. Jacques Goulet.
Goulet is also known as WWE tag team champion and long-time WWE
road agent Rene Goulet.
But
the highlight of this encounter is Sheik and Dick the
Bruiser finally laying their hands on each other.
No Disqualifications
Bruiser
Brody &
Mr. Unpredictable Dick Slater
vs.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan &
Bruiser Bob Sweetan
(second by
Colonel Buck Robley)
A
rare match up between two of the most popular brawlers of all
time.
Bruiser
Brody was an international legend. It was arguable if he was
a bigger star in the United States or Japan. When the
300-pound Brody was involved, the match would be as likely to
end up in the fifth row or the balcony as the ring. Mr. Unpredictable
Dick Slater teams with Brody. Slater earned his nickname
because of his varied style. Some matches Salter would go into
the ring and wrestle a completely technical style. Other nights
he would throw the rulebook out the window. Fans and opponents
never didn't know which Slater would show up. On this night, the
hunch is that he would street fight with the other three
brawlers in the ring.
Hacksaw
Jim Duggan was another super heavyweight who wasn't afraid
to brawl and bleed. With his trademark 2x4 board and wide open
style, Duggan was beloved in the WWE, WCW, and Mid-South. But he
wasn't popular when started his career, and this is one of his
first featured matches. Duggan's partner is a renown brawler in
Texas, Louisiana, and the Central States, Bruiser Bob Sweetan.
Sweetan was a wily ring veteran and the master of the
piledriver.
This
match is believed to be the only televised meeting between two
legendary brawlers, Bruiser Brody and Hacksaw Jim
Duggan.
Tag
Team War
Andre the Giant
&
Dick the Bruiser
vs.
Ox Baker &
Killer Karl Krupp
The
World's Most Dangerous Wrestler teams with the 8th Wonder of the
World to meet an irresistible force.
Legendary
tough guy Dick he Bruiser teams with the 7-foot-4,
450-pound Andre the Giant.
The
Bruiser and the World's largest wrestler face a couple of
wrestlers set on making their reputation by beating them.
Ox
Baker was a 6-foot-6, 325-pound monster that terrorized
rings for 20 years. His feared heart punch laid numerous
opponents out. His face was so scary, he later landed movie
roles, including John Carpenter's Escape from New York.
Killer
Karl Krupp was a dangerous German grappler and a master of
the iron claw. Krupp injured many wrestlers with his claw,
including hospitalizing Kevin Von Erich.

Mark Lewin
(left) and the Sheik |
United States heavyweight championship No Disqualifications - No Time Limit
Mark Lewin
(Defending United States heavyweight champion) vs. Sheik (seconded by manager Eddie
Creatchman)
Mark
Lewin came to the Detroit-Toronto area and shocked the
entire wrestling world by upsetting the Sheik for the
United States heavyweight championship. Lewin was a master of
the sleeper hold and knew that this would be his biggest weapon
going into the rematch. The Sheik would be at his most vicious
best and would pull out all the stops in the rematch - even by
the Sheik's standards.

Ox
Baker Interview
Ox
Baker wasn't just a 6-foot-6, 325-pound wrestler, he
was a force of nature.
Ox
didn't go for cute one liners on his interviews, he went for
terror.
With
that bombastic voice and an unmatched intensity, Baker was
popular not only in wrestling, but in movies and television
shows.
In
this interview, he send a chill down the spine of Macho Man
Randy Savage, the entire Poffo family, and all their fans.
